As I understand it people had suffered immensely during the war, deprivation and death, and now it was payback. They wanted stuff. Not more inequality (remember Churchill is a conservative) - and they voted for that.

Same for the rest of Europe. This is probably why social democracy is more advanced in Europe than US which never had a war like this on its territory.
