Does Trump want to be a dictator - YES - there is no evidence at all that he is observing any democratic norm.

So the question is 'how far will he go?'.

At the moment he is wrecking the post office but this is actually quite minor proto-dictator behaviour.

There are many articles about 'what happens if he loses and refuses to leave?' But any wannabe dictator is not going to 'lose' an election - even if only 1% of the population support him.

So there could be more tricks in the pipeline.

Promoting violence is a trick, get American cities to burn. He has tried this already but the protestors were disappointingly peaceful. He may have another go. Getting voters to think that the country is descending into violent chaos that only a strongman can fix is a technique that works.

Most extreme is a false flag operation such as

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_apartment_bombings

which helped elevate Putin to the presidency.

It seems likely that Trump has neither the intellect or mettle for such a thing - lets hope so.

Lets hope he loses the election and then there are months of bitter wrangling before he finally has to give up but his supporters still think he was cheated - that's the best outcome!

edit: I am now thinking that possibly Trump is not a rational person but irrational, like a Qanon conspiracy theorist. In this case he would not be dictator material. When we make assumptions that his utterances show plans maybe we’re wrong and hit utterances are just associated with instant gratification of the moment and nothing more? This would reduce the chance of him doing really nasty stuff because he would not have the planning ability.
