Another comparison might be how they run their empires. Like traditional empires the Russians use local puppet governments to run their ethnic provinces. They don't mind people having local traditions as long as they know who is the ultimate boss. This is also a cost effective way of running an empire!

What the Chinese are doing in Xinjiang is weird and disturbing. Looks more like ethnic/cultural chauvinism then trying to run an empire efficiently.

I am afraid I am reminded of Hitler wasting resources on the 'final solution', resources that could have gone to his war effort.

So lets not forget that China is bad too.
