I deal with this all the time. I store or my text based data in tab separated format, which means the import wizard automatically appears, then I assign every column its correct datatype. I think this automatic datatype recognition is the first blast of the frustrating 'AI' dystopia we are creating where our 'intelligent' light bulbs don't do what we want unless we go through some exhausting rigmarole.

I'm against it. The user should have to specify the datatypes of cells before using them. But everyone wants 'convenience' until its not so convenient
