Interesting. In the past people often bought the same newspaper every day that would have a slant that was congenial to their world view. There was TV news but that generally offers little analysis and becomes just a dump of (selected) raw events that are happening right now.

I would say that now it is easier to find and read articles that disagree with your opinions and it costs nothing, if others are doing this too then there could actually be an increase in the quality of considered opinion.

Probably some are making use of the information bonanza in this way and others are pursueing extremism down the rabbit hole. It depends on your attitude to seeking out the facts vs being enclosed in a self validating community.

If your numbers are correct then there is hope.
