The Gulag is a great book. Many people survived their sentence in the camps. After years of brutal beatings, fighting for scraps to survive and being worked to the point of near death they returned to society and said ... nothing. These were peole destroyed, living a semi existence and terrified of being sent back. This gives us some idea of Solzhenitsyn's courage.
