There are, I think, cases where people structure their beliefs for personal advantage.

One example is certain religious sects (usually in the US) where 'positive thinking' is considered good and that if one thinks one should be rich then one will be, this being a gift from God for thinking right.

Often criminals consider themselves to be good and their actions as improving the world by relieving the stupid of their money, or maybe teaching the stupid a useful life's lesson!

In general the rich, even if they have inherited their money, consider their wealth to have been earned via hard work or superior intelligence/morals rather than luck.

The point is, perhaps, not that holding a false belief is equivalent to murder but that is morally good to make an effort to see the world clearly.
