Of course the Chinese are not Nazis. The ‘genocide’ in Xinjiang is a cultural genocide (destroying a culture) rather than physical genocide (killing an entire ethnic group). The west was interested in cultural genocide until quite recently (e.g. Canada’s native children) and probably those involved in organising these events though they were doing the natives a favour by ‘civilising’ them. The Chinese activity is on an unprecedented scale but not much different from us in the past. Even so, we are right to abhor these activities.
