We exists and we have not seen any sign of any other intelligent civilizations.

So the great filter is in front of us, in order to fit these observations the great filter must be near total with only an infinitesimal chance of getting past it.

So we are doomed. As noted, there is plenty of evidence in our behaviour to support this conclusion.

But there is another possibility, maybe the great filter is not so total and there is intelligent life out there.

Maybe this hyper-intelligent life is not so easy to see as is generally supposed?
